Painulasjärvi - the beginning
Once There Was was founded back in 2002 when Jessica needed a project name for her music, as she was about to record a first demo, Painulasjärvi. The process of recording this CD begun with Jessica writing a number of songs starting a couple of years before the demo was even on mind. From these songs she picked the ones she considered to be the best ones out and worked a bit more with them. After that, Mikael and Marcus entered the picture and recorded guitar- and basslines. All recordings, also vocal ones, were done in the home studio of Mikael. This was quite a time consuming thing and when the demo was finished in 2003, Jessica thought 'never again'.
Demons - the successor
Of course, that was to change. In 2006 it was time again. Ten tracks were gathered for some more intense work, and this time no guitar or bass recordings were made since Jessica had not written guitars for these tracks. Instead, "Demons" was a keyboard based demo. Marcus, Mikael and now also Jessica's brother Niklas helped with the mixing, and once the demo was finished it got a few optimistic reviews and gave Jessica an interview for Powermetal.de.
Where Angels Grow - the music is growing
In November 2007, the third demo Where Angels Grow was released and with it, a whole new level of musicianship and sound quality. With new powerful tools in the studio the music has progressed towards a more orchestral feel from previous demos. The number of Once There Was listeners is growing bigger and stretching world wide, which makes the efforts towards the project Once There Was more serious.
In 2008, Jessica joined the projects Factory of Dreams and Beto Vazquez Infinity. One CD from each project was released during the year and there are more releases to come.
